Release of ‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie is delayed until 2023

The movie adaptation of Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. video game series has been delayed until 2023. The Super Mario Bros. adaptation was originally set to release on Dec. 21; now, the film is set to debut in theaters on April 7, 2023 in North America. A Japanese release will follow on April 28.

Super Mario Bros. series creator and Nintendo leader Shigeru Miyamoto announced the change in release date through Nintendo’s social media: “After consulting with Chris-san, [producer Chris Meledandri,] my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023. My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.”

In Sept. 2021, Nintendo revealed the voice cast for the Super Mario Bros. film, led by Chris Pratt as the voice of the famous Italian plumber, Mario. The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. Original Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will have a cameo role in the film.

Lizzo announces 2022 North American ‘Special’ tour

Lizzo has shared details of her upcoming North American arena tour, The Special Tour, featuring 25-dates and support from special guest Latto.

The Special Tour will officially kick-off on Sept. 23 at the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla., before wrapping up on Nov. 18 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.  The tour serves as support of Lizzo’s forthcoming record, SPECIAL, which is out on July 15.

American Express Card Members will have first access to purchase tickets before the general public now through Thursday, April 28th at 10 pm local time. Fans can pre-save SPECIAL for early access to tickets. The general public ticket sale begins at 10 a.m. local on Friday, April 29 through Ticketmaster.

Tyler, the Creator’s “Call Me If You Get Lost” returns to No. 1 on Billboard album chart

Tyler, the Creator’s sixth album, Call Me If You Get Lost, recently won Best Rap Album at the Grammys, and has now reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard albums chart.

Call Me If You Get Lost sold 59,000 album units on the Billboard 200 chart dated April 30, 2022, comprised of 51,000 pure album sales with 49,500 of that being vinyl LP sales.  The LP earned the largest sales week for a hip-hop album on vinyl, or for a solo male album on vinyl (the previous record for a male artist was held by Kid Cudi’s Man On The Moon III: The Chosen which sold 41,500 vinyl copies in its first week back in December.)

Hulu has shared a trailer for the LGBTQ romantic comedy ‘Fire Island,’ featuring Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang.

Fire Island follows Noah (Booster) and Howie (Yang), two gay best friends who vacation on Fire Island, a hotspot for queer culture in New York. The pair party with friends and flirt with two wealthy vacationers, Will (Conrad Ricamora) and Charlie (James Scully).  Matt Rogers, Margaret Cho, Nick Adams, Tomás Matos and Torian Miller also star.

Booster is a writer, actor and comedian who appeared in his own Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents special in 2017. Yang is a writer for ‘Saturday Night Live’ and also starred on Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.  Booster wrote and executive produced the film, with Andrew Ahn as director.

Britney Spears says she is taking a ‘social media hiatus’ amid pregnancy

Britney Spears has shared in an Instagram post that she will be on a break from social media for “a little while.”  The 40-year-old singer wrote“I’m going on a social media hiatus for a little while!!!  I send my love and God bless you all.”

The social media hiatus for Spears follows her recent announcement that she expecting her third child, her first with her fiancé, Sam Asghari. Spears shares two sons, Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Said Spears earlier this month:  “I am having a baby. I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have.”

Spears and Asghari got engaged in September 2021 amid Spears’ conservatorship battle. In November, a Los Angeles judge officially ended Spears’ 13-year conservatorship.

Lil Baby documentary ‘Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby’ to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival

Lil Baby’s documentary Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby will make its debut on June 11 at the Tribeca Film Festival. According to the film’s description, the documentary will follow Lil Baby’s “transformational journey from local Atlanta hustler to becoming one of hip-hop’s biggest stars and pop culture’s most important voices for change.”  Lil Baby is expected to attend the premiere of the documentary and will also perform.

Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby is directed by Karam Gill, with Lil Baby and QC’s Pierre ‘P’ Thomas and Kevin ‘Coach K’ Lee serving as producers. The film will debut along with other music-based films including The D.O.C’s self-titled documentary, which will detail the N.W.A producer and Death Row Records co-founder’s life from the height of his career in the 90s to his current struggles.

Lil Baby recently dropped the music videos for his new songs “Right On” and “In a Minute” but has not yet confirmed when his album will drop.

Nas & Hit-Boy release the music video for “Ugly”

Nas is back with new material, teaming up with go-to collaborator Hit-Boy in the official video for their song “Ugly”.

The video is the follow-up to “Wave Gods” with ASAP Rocky and DJ Premier, and appears on Nas’ most recent project “Magic“, his third straight collaborative album with Hit-Boy.

Jeff Bridges to star in new FX series ‘The Old Man’

FX is set to release the new drama series The Old Man, starring Jeff Bridges as a man who has been living off the grid since he absconded from the CIA decades ago. The series, based on Thomas Perry’s bestselling novel of the same name, will air at 10 p.m. EDT on FX and stream the next day on Hulu. The Old Man will debut by releasing the first two episodes of the seven-episode season on its premiere date, June 16th.

The plot of The Old Man ‘centers around absconded CIA operative Dan Chase (Bridges), who is driven out of hiding when an assassin arrives and tries to take him out. Chase then learns he must reconcile with his past to ensure his future. After he leaves hiding, FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper (John Lithgow), who has a complicated past with the rogue operative, hunts him down, along with his protégé Angela Adams (Alia Shawkat) and CIA Special Agent Raymond Waters (E.J. Bonilla). Authorities have to call in a highly trained special ops contractor Julian Carson (Gbenga Akinnagbe) to pursue him as well when he proves more difficult to apprehend than expected.’

Bridges will also serve as executive produces the series, along with Warren Littlefield, Jonathan E. Steinberg, Dan Shotz, Robert Levine, David Schiff and Jon Watts, who also directed the first two episodes.

Netflix series ‘God’s Favorite Idiot’ starring Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone to premiere on June 15

Netflix announced the premiere date for the Melissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone series God’s Favorite Idiot, set to debut on June 15. Falcone created the series and executive produces with McCarthy and Michael McDonald, who also serves as director.  God’s Favorite Idiot will consist of eight episodes.

In God’s Favorite Idiot, Falcone plays Clark Thompson, a tech support worker who has a crush on his colleague, Amily (McCarthy). One day, Clark starts to glow and becomes a religious leader to a flock of followers.  Also starring in the series is Leslie Bibb, Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney and Yanic Truesdale — McCarthy’s Gilmore Girls co-star.

Falcone has frequently directed his wife McCarthy, most recently the Netflix comedy Thunder Force. McCarthy and Falcone also produced the series Nobodies, and Falcone often appears in cameos in McCarthy’s films.

6IX9INE shares the video for his latest single “GINÉ”

6ix9ine has released the music video for his new single “GINÉ.”  The track sees 6IX9INE reignite his beef with Lil Durk, taunting his longtime friend and collaborator, King Von, who was fatally shot in November 2020.

6ix9ine is also collaborating with GINÉ Energy on a new energy drink, which he revealed shortly after the single dropped. GINÉ Energy went live with an Instagram page displaying six new flavors, and according to the company’s official website, the drinks are “coming soon.”

“GINÉ” is the first new music from 6IX9INE since February 2021, when he shared the song “ZAZA.” The track arrived five months after 6ix9ine dropped his sophomore album TattleTales, in September 2020, which was a  months after his early release from prison that April.
