DaBaby charged with felony battery over attack at shooting of music video
DaBaby has been charged with felony battery by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. According to TMZ, court documents confirm that the charges stem from a December 2020 incident in which Gary Pagar, a 65-year-old rental property owner in Los Angeles, accused DaBaby of hitting him and knocking out his tooth.
In Feb. 2021, Pagar filed a lawsuit against DaBaby (real name Jonathan Kirk) and his associates claiming that Kirk punched him after Pagar complained that the rapper had violated the terms of their lease agreement; at the time of the incident, DaBaby was reportedly shooting a music video with over 40 people in the home, despite agreeing to not allow more than nine people in the house due to Covid-19 protocols. The lawsuit stated: “In fact, the purpose of defendants’ trip to Los Angeles was to gather 40 people and a commercial film crew at Mr. Pagar’s house to film a music video… When Mr. Pagar asked them to stop, they beat and battered him, stole his phone by force so he couldn’t call the police, and threatened him. Then they vandalized his house and left, after stealing various valuable items. Defendants’ behavior was utterly despicable.”
Nearly 16 months after the alleged assault, Los Angeles County court documents confirmed that Kirk will face felony battery charges stemming from the incident, during which Pagar said his tooth was knocked out among other injuries. Additionally, one of Kirk’s associates, Thankgod Awute, faces a felony charge of theft using force. According to the Los Angeles County Court database, Kirk will have a preliminary hearing in connection to the charges on June 1 at the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Bad Bunny to star in Spider-Man standalone film ‘El Muerto’
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio — better known by his stage name Bad Bunny — has been cast as the newest Marvel hero, and will lead the Spider-Man standalone comic book film “El Muerto.” Ocasio will be the first Latino actor to headline a live-action Marvel film.
Sony Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch made the announcement at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Known as Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez in the comics, El Muerto is a wrestler whose powers are handed down by ancestry in the form of a mask (which, according to Marvel’s official site, gives him superhuman strength). In past comics, El Muerto has gotten in the ring with Spider-Man himself. At CinemaCon, Sony suggested Ocasio will portray ‘an antihero on the verge of inheriting his father’s power.’
Bad Bunny is a noted professional wrestling fan who competed at WWE’s WrestleMania 37 in April and at the 2022 Royal Rumble in January. Bad Bunny told the crowd at CinemaCon about his love of wrestling, adding, “to bring El Muerto to life is just incredible…so exciting.” Bad Bunny’s acting experience includes a previous role in ‘Narcos: Mexico’, and he will next be seen in Bullet Train, which comes to theaters on July 29.
“El Muerto” is set to hit theaters on Jan. 12, 2024.
